RESUMO

In this report, the morphological, optical, electrical, and photovoltaic properties of copper oxide and calcium-doped copper oxide thin films produced via the spray coating method were studied. The thermal post treatment at 300 °C in an inert atmosphere allowed us to obtain a single phase of Cu2O with 21 Ωcm of resistivity (ρ). In this study, 1 wt%, 2 wt%, 3 wt%, 4 wt%, 5 wt%, and 10 wt% Ca admixtures with copper oxide were investigated. The determined optimal calcium dopant concentration was 4 wt%. XRD analysis was used to reveal the chemical composition of the produced layers. It was found that a calcium dopant does not change the layer composition but improves its electrical parameters. Based on UV-Vis spectra, the band gap energy and Urbach energy were calculated. The morphology of produced thin films was described as smooth and nanocrystalline, corresponding to a grain size calculated based on the Scherrer equation. Finally, it was shown that the developed protocol of low-resistivity copper oxide deposition via the spray coating technique can be successfully implemented in heterojunction solar cell production. The I-V parameters of Ag/n-type CzSi/REF:CuOx and 4Ca:CuOx/Carbon were collected, and the achieved efficiency was 2.38%.

RESUMO

The purpose of this study was to experimentally determine the abrasion wear properties of ausferritic ductile iron austempered at 250 °C in order to obtain cast iron of class EN-GJS-1400-1. It has been found that such a cast iron grade makes it possible to create structures for material conveyors used for short-distance transport purposes, required to perform in terms of abrasion resistance under extreme conditions. The wear tests addressed in the paper were conducted at a ring-on-ring type of test rig. The test samples were examined under the conditions of slide mating, where the main destructive process was surface microcutting via loose corundum grains. The mass loss of the examined samples was measured as a parameter characteristic of the wear. The volume loss values thus obtained were plotted as a function of initial hardness. Based on these results, it has been found that prolonged heat treatment (of more than 6 h) causes only an insignificant increase in the resistance to abrasive wear.

RESUMO

Aluminum-lithium alloys have the potential for use in aerospace applications, and improving their physical, mechanical, and operational characteristics through alloying is a pressing task. Lithium, with a density of 0.54 g/cm3, enhances the elastic modulus of aluminum while reducing the weight of the resulting alloys, making them increasingly attractive. Adding transition metal additives to aluminum alloys enhances their strength, heat resistance, and corrosion resistance, due to their modifying effect and grain refinement. The study aimed to investigate the impact of titanium content on the microstructure, corrosion resistance, and hardness of Al-Li alloys. Four alloys were prepared with varying amounts of titanium at 0.05 wt%, 0.1 wt%, 0.5 wt%, and 1.0 wt%. The results showed that the microstructure of the alloy was modified after adding Ti, resulting in a decrease in average grain size to about 60% with the best refinement at 0.05 wt% Ti content. SEM and EDS analysis revealed an irregular net-shaped interdendritic microstructure with an observed microsegregation of Al3Li compounds and other trace elements at the grain boundaries. The samples showed casting defects due to the high content of Li in the alloy, which absorbed air during casting, resulting in casting defects such as shrinkage holes. The corrosion resistance test results were low for the samples with casting defects, with the least resistance recorded for a sample containing 0.1 wt% Ti content, with more casting defects. The addition of Ti increased the microhardness of the alloy to an average of 91.8 ± 2.8 HV.

RESUMO

The article presents the assessment of solutions and dried residues precipitated from solutions after the bioleaching process of Printed Circuit Boards (PCB) utilizing the Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans. The obtained dried residues precipitated from bioleaching solution (leachate) and control solution were tested using morphology, phase, and chemical composition analysis, with particular emphasis on the assessment of crystalline and amorphous components. The analysis of the dried residues from leachate after bioleaching as well as those from the sterile control solution demonstrated a difference in the component oxidation-the leachate consisted of mainly amorphous spherical particles in diameter up to 200 nm, forming lacy aggregates. In the specimenform control solution larger particles (up to 500 nm) were observed with a hollow in the middle and crystalline outer part (probably Fe2O3, CuFeS2, and Cu2O). The X-ray diffraction phase analysis revealed that specimen obtained from leachate after bioleaching consisted mainly of an amorphous component and some content of Fe2O3 crystalline phase, while the dried residue from control solution showed more crystalline components. The share of the crystalline and amorphous components can be related to efficiency in dissolving metals during bioleaching. Obtained results of the investigation confirm the activity and participation of the A. ferrooxidans bacteria in the solubilization process of electro-waste components, with their visible degradation-acceleration of the reaction owing to a continuous regeneration of the leaching medium. The performed investigations allowed to characterize the specimen from leachate and showed that the application of complementary cross-check of the micro (SEM and S/TEM) and macro (ICP-OES and XRD) methods are of immense use for complete guidance assessment and obtained valuable data for the next stages of PCBs recycling.

RESUMO

The main aim of this research was the preparation of a polymer-ceramic composite with PA-12 as the polymer matrix and modified aluminosilicate cenospheres (CSs) as the ceramic filler. The CSs were subjected to an early purification and cleaning process, which was also taken as a second objective. The CSs were surface modified by a two-step process: (1) etching in Piranha solution and (2) silanization in 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane. The composite was made for 3D printing by FDM. Raw and modified CSs and a composite with PA-12 were subjected to the following tests: surface development including pores (BET), real density (HP), chemical composition and morphology (SEM/EDS, FTIR), grain analysis (PSD), phase composition (XRD), hardness (HV), and static tensile tests. The composites were subjected to soaking under simulated body fluid (SBF) conditions in artificial saliva for 14, 21, and 29 days. Compared to pure PA-12, PA-12_CS had generally better mechanical properties and was more resistant to SBF at elevated temperatures and soaking times. These results showed this material has potential for use in biomedical applications. These results also showed the necessity of developing a kinetic aging model for aging in different liquids to verify the true value of this material.

RESUMO

The resistance of cast iron to chemical and electrochemical corrosion depends on the exposure conditions, chemical composition and the distribution of alloying elements in the microstructure. The article presents an attempt to describe the formation of a corrosion layer under controlled chemical corrosion conditions for SiMo ductile iron. In the experiment, a (HT-HRD) chamber for heating the samples with a controlled atmosphere was used, at the same time providing the possibility of testing the sample surface using the XRD method. The analysis was both qualitative and quantitative. It allowed us to capture the sequence of the oxide layer growth on the tested samples. The beneficial effect of molybdenum on the corrosion resistance of SiMo cast iron has been proven. For all cases under analysis, the phenomenon of an increase in the share of hematite (Fe2O3) and magnetite (Fe3O4) was observed in the subsequent sample heating cycles. It turned out that the addition of molybdenum helps to create a tight oxide coating that inhibits the further growth of corrosion processes. Increasing the share of molybdenum in the alloy also reduces the thickness of the oxide layer.

RESUMO

The paper presents results of testing the resistance of chain wheels made of alloyed austempered ductile iron (ADI) with various content of retained austenite and subjected to shot peening, to the dynamic and abrasive wear by solid particles. The impact of the additional environmental factor-external dynamic forces-accompanying the operation of the chain wheels in the presence of the quartz particles has a synergistic effect on the abrasive wear in the contact area between the wheels and the chain links for all the considered variants, except for the ADI with the structure of the upper ausferrite. Based on the results obtained, it was found that the abrasive wear by solid particles increased and that the hardness of the surface layer of the chain wheels subjected to shot peening decreased. The relative increase in the wear ΔVDYN/δMAX,(A), representing the share of the additional dynamic force in the process of wear, was in the range of 16-40% for the group of tested cast iron ADI not subjected to shot peening, while for the shot peened-in the range of 16-64%. Demonstration of phase changes during the operation of chain wheels and the change in their intensity depending on the combination of environmental factors is the work novelty. In the opinion of the authors, the presented results will be of great practical importance as they will allow to increase the knowledge on the proper selection of ADI cast iron for environmental conditions.

RESUMO

Despite the obvious benefits of using ureteral stents to drain the ureters, there is also a risk of complications from 80-90%. The presence of a foreign body in the human body causes disturbances in its proper functioning. It can lead to biofilm formation on the stent surface, which may favor the development of urinary tract infections or the formation of encrustation, as well as stent fragmentation, complicating its subsequent removal. In this work, the effect of the polymeric coating containing the active substance-papaverine hydrochloride on the functional properties of ureteral stents significant for clinical practice were assessed. Methods: The most commonly clinically used polyurethane ureteral Double-J stent was selected for the study. Using the dip-coating method, the surface of the stent was coated with a poly(D,L-lactide-glycolide) (PLGA) coating containing the papaverine hydrochloride (PAP). In particular, strength properties, retention strength of the stent ends, dynamic frictional force, and the fluoroscopic visibility of the stent during X-ray imaging were determined. Results: The analysis of the test results indicates the usefulness of a biodegradable polymer coating containing the active substance for the modification of the surface of polyurethane ureteral stents. The stents coated with PLGA+PAP coating compared to polyurethane stents are characterized by more favorable strength properties, the smaller value of the dynamic frictional force, without reducing the fluoroscopic visibility.

RESUMO

In this paper, three commercial cermet powders, WC-Co-Cr, WC-Co and WC-Cr3C2-Ni, were sprayed by the High Velocity Oxy Fuel (HVOF) method onto magnesium alloy AZ31 substrate. The coatings were investigated in terms of their microstructure, phase analysis and residual stress. The manufactured coatings were analyzed extensively using optical microscopy (OM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Based on microstructure studies, it was noted that the coatings show satisfactory homogeneity. XRD analysis shows that in WC-Co, WC-Co-Cr and WC-Cr3C2-Ni coatings, main peaks are related to WC. Weaker peaks such as W2C, Co0.9W0.1, Co and W for WC-Co and W2C, Cr3C2 and Cr7C3 for WC-Cr3C2-Ni also occur. In all cermet coatings, linear stress showed compressive nature. In WC-Co and WC-Cr3C2-Ni, residual stress had a similar value, while in WC-Co-Cr, linear stress was lower. It was also proved that spraying onto magnesium substrate causes shear stress in the WC phase, most likely due to the low elastic modulus of magnesium alloy substrate.

RESUMO

In this study, a dual rolls equal channel extrusion (DRECE) process has been applied for improving the mechanical properties of the 5754 alloy. Supplementary experiments involving metallography, electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD), and XRD tests were carried out to evaluate the effect of the DRECE process. XRD analysis showed that the maximum dislocation density was achieved after six DRECE passes, which were accompanied by the formation that is typical for low-strain structures. The increasing dislocation density, as well as grain refinement throughout DRECE deformation, resulted in an increase in the mechanical properties. Annealing of the as-deformed sample resulted in grain growth and strength reduction.

RESUMO

The study was carried out to evaluate five SiMo cast iron grades and their resistance to chemical corrosion at elevated temperature. Corrosion tests were carried out under conditions of an actual cyclic operation of a retort coal-fired boiler. The duration of the study was 3840 h. The range of temperature changes during one cycle was in the range of 300-650 °C. Samples of SiMo cast iron with Si content at the level of 5% and variable Mo content in the range 0%-2.5% were used as the material for the study. The examined material was subjected to preliminary metallographic analysis using scanning microscopy and an Energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) system. The chemical composition was determined on the basis of a Leco spectrometer and a Leco carbon and sulfur analyzer. The examination of the oxide layer was carried out with the use of Scanning electron microscope (SEM), EDS, and X-ray diffraction (XRD) methods. It was discovered that, in the analyzed alloys, oxide layers consisting of Fe2O3, Fe3O4, SO2, and Fe2SiO4 were formed. The analyzed oxide layers were characterized by high adhesion to the substrate material, and their total thickness was about 20 µm.

RESUMO

This work attempts to process AlCu4MgSi (AW 2017A) alloy continuous ingots by means of the equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) method. The equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) technique has been widely investigated in recent years as the most promising severe plastic deformation (SPD) method. The presented research was focused on the precise determination of the phase composition of the precipitates formed in the AlCu4MgSi alloy and its influence on intensive plastic deformation. In the second stage, the research was focused on explaining the recrystallization process. With the use of the high-temperature X-ray diffraction (HTXRD) technique, the changes in the dislocation substructure at various recrystallization annealing temperatures were analyzed.

RESUMO

The study addressed the microstructure and mechanical properties of hot-rolled advanced high-strength medium manganese steel. Some of the curves that were obtained in static tensile tests at deformation temperatures of 20-200°C showed the occurrence of the heterogeneous plastic deformation phenomenon, called the Portevin-Le Chatelier (PLC) effect. The deformation temperature significantly influenced a serration character. The correlations between the deformation temperature, serration range, microstructural features, and fracture behavior were investigated. The curves showed no Lüders elongation as a result of the thermomechanical processing applied. The serrated flow phenomenon was observed at 60 and 140 °C. The serration type was different and the most enhanced at 140 °C, where the PLC effect was present in both uniform and post-uniform elongation ranges. The disappearance of serrations at 200 °C was related to the increased diffusion intensity.
